Val took a group from Watershed School to see the Boulder BioDiesel CO-Op, where we get our go go juice.
From Jen Bamesburger, Watershed School Teacher
"Here is Maddy's reflection on the trip:
The room was dusty, making my eyes water. There was a small waiting room which clearly stated with it’s cleanliness, “We don’t get many guests.” A man named Kurt Lange met us in the awkward little room. He had thick framed glasses, making his grey eyes look small and beady, but always wide open. He led us into a much larger, gray room, revealing the true size of the warehouse. Huge vats of a brown liquid crowded the building, a sickly sweet aroma thickly coating the air.
Kurt Lange pointed out all the toxic things we shouldn’t touch, making me feel a bit uncomfortable being squished inches away from one of the containers. He explained that when he started his biodiesel company, his idea wasn’t to make money, but to give the world another chance at survival instead of continuing to crash. Kurt’s actually losing money, yet he hopes he will make a deal with the City Of Boulder and earn back the money he’s spent on his project.
